InterfaceFLOR Benefts From USGBC Ruling

A recent ruling by the U.S. Green Building Council allows projects to earn extra LEED credit by using products that have California Gold or SMART certification.

That helps users of InterfaceFLOR carpet backed with GlasBacRE, which has the higher platinum certification.

Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program allows projects to earn an “Innovation in Design” credit by using products with California Gold or SMART certification, equal to 2.5% of the value of all building materials and products.

However, platinum certified products can count double in the calculation, so they only need to comprise 1.25% of the value.

Under California Gold, carpet is awarded points based on: the use of renewable energy and energy efficiency in the manufacturing process; recycled and bio-based materials; increased water conservation; facility and company achievements; social equity; and product reuse and reclamation.

Platinum certification is reserved for only the highest performing products; Gold is earned for the next tier of performance.
