Interior Designers Use the Latest Green Finishes
In this green design case study, Cunningham Design, a "certified green" interior design firm, used the latest eco-finishes to create a dynamic, modern interior at LaBelle Day Spa.
Lead designer, Scott Cunningham, specified a variety of low toxic products, such as fabrics, low VOC paints and non-formaldehyde construction materials, to greatly improve the indoor air quality for the health and well being of both the employees and clients.
The spas light, airy lobby first introduces you to the green materials used throughout the entire place, including rubber floors and Avonite recycled counters. Cunningham Designs specializes in nontoxic materials, making a perfect match for the spa owners intentions for eco-ethos which extends throughout the facility, from interiors to spa products.
All the construction materials that could be toxic free or recycled, environmentally friendly, we used, says the owner, Bella Schneider. Other earth friendly features include energy-efficient lighting and Energy Star appliances, and marketing materials printed using soy inks and recycled and biodegradable paper.
Many of the finishes specified by Cunningham for this project are green, including cork flooring, non toxic paint, low toxic glues, locally built non-toxic cabinetry, recycled material on reception desk counter with paintings by a local artist and wall installations built from material found at the local scrap yard.
The new spa also features a cutting-edge medi-spa that offers a range of services to help protect, heal and rejuvenate the skin. We have so many choices today, and I would like to have all the options available for my clients, Schneider explains.
The spa also features a non-toxic nail salon, a makeup bar and an eco-friendly hair salon that will open in June.
