Companies Join Forces to Create Near Zero Energy Homes Launch Challenge at Mobius LA Event Ready Solar and Green Life Guru late last month announced the launch of the Zero Energy Challenge to significantly reduce America's home energy usage and eliminate our dependence on coal-fired power plants. Green Life Guru, a Santa Monica-based environmental consulting and services company, has partnered with Ready Solar, an industry leader in modular solar energy systems, to develop a comprehensive protocol for retrofitting of existing homes to perform at efficiency and sustainability levels that achieve near-zero energy status. "Until we learn to address our own energy consumption in a meaningful way, all other environmental campaigns will not stem greenhouse gas emissions and global climate change," states Green Life Guru co-founder, Gregg Steiner. "The major offender in the battle is our dangerously increasing reliance on fossil fuels. There are 151 new conventional coal-fired power plants currently being development in the US. Seventy-six percent (76%) of all power plant-generated electricity is used to operate buildings, and most of that energy is wasted through leaks and poorly insulated walls and attics. There is vast room for improvement."
