Next Generation, one of the San Francisco Bay Area's leading youth empowerment organizations, seeks a new Executive Director. Since our founding in 2002, Next Generation has built an impressive array of programs and relationships to foster education and action for peace and ecological sustainability among Marin County youth ages 5 to 25. After 5 and a half years building and running the organization, our Founding Executive Director will be stepping down. We seek a passionate, dedicated, experienced individual who will help ensure our continued growth and success.

Objectives
• To serve as the organization's main leader and source of motivation
• To manage the day-to-day operations of an organization employing 5 people, with an annual budget of $200,000
• To support and maintain the physical, human and financial resources necessary to maintain and grow Next Gen
• To ensure the short and long-term survival and success of the organization
• To facilitate the growth of our programs, relationships, funding and organization systems
• To help develop and implement organizational and programmatic vision and goals
• To help develop the plans and coordinate the staff necessary to achieve these goals
• To represent Next Generation in the media and with funders

Responsibilities:
• Program Direction and Support
o Work with program staff to develop vision and objectives for Peace and Green Schools programs
o Support program staff in developing program-related goals, timelines and work plans
o Provide program staff with program development and implementation advice and support
o Participate in select program activities

• Fundraising / Development Director
o Develop and implement fundraising plans and campaigns
o Solicit funding from foundations, business, government agencies, schools and individual donors
o Maintain funding partnerships with major institutional funders
o Enlist and manage others in this area

• Personnel / Human Resources Director
o Work with board members and other staff to determine staffing needs and conduct hiring processes
o Manage and support staff in achieving their objectives
o Deal with various personnel issues including schedules, conflicts, etc.
o Coordinate staff team, build sense of team, facilitate staff meetings, etc.
o Support staff development through advice, trainings and other resources

• Organizational Development and Strategic Planning
o Work with board members and senior staff to create and maintain organizational development plans
o Work with others to implement organizational development projects
o Serve as primary coordinator for strategic planning process

• Administration
o Work with administrative staff to oversee organizational finances, including accounting, accounts payable/receivable, taxes, etc.
o Develop and oversee budgets
o Coordinate government and legal requirements, forms, etc.
o Support staff in various areas of organizational administration, including office management, etc.

• Board of Directors and Community Relations
o Serve as primary liaison and working partner with Board of Directors
o Promote Next Generation in the community and play a significant role in securing and nurturing important programmatic, fundraising and promotional partnerships

• Event support
o Work with staff to vision events, set goals and decide on content
o Support staff in planning and running community events

• Cook a communal vegetarian lunch one day a week! (We rotate making these at the office)
• Remain up-to-date on environmental and peace issues and solutions as they relate to Next Generation's work Qualifications
• Experience working for peace and / or sustainability
• Experience working with grassroots organizations
• Experience with various aspects of non-profit administration
• Experience with project management and implementation
• Experience with non-profit finances, budgeting and book-keeping
• Experience managing and supporting staff and volunteers
• Experience creating fundraising plans and raising funds through grants, businesses and individual donors
• Experience with organizational development and strategic planning
• Experience working with a board of directors
• Experience working with youth
• Experience working in an office environment

Hours and Compensation: Pay scale is $35,000 - $55,000 per year, DoE. Flex-time and 6 weeks paid vacation (late Dec and July) per year, as well as basic health benefits. Position will start sometime during August or September of 2008. Preferably the new hire will be available for limited part-time paid work in May and June to become better oriented and integrated into the organization. The ideal candidate seeks a multi-year position and must commit through at least June 2010.
