Providing Wisdom in Building a Sustainable Future

What makes a table “green”?

1.100% Reclaimed Solid Hardwood Frame (Southern Pine- as shown) mitred at corners, adhered with low VOC adhesive (meets or exceeds South Coast Air Quality Management regulations) finished with waterborne clear coat stain. Tone of wood will vary depending on reclaimed hardwood available. Origin of materials: Reclaimed Southern pine rescued from school demolition project formerly used as gymnasium bleachers in Springfield, MA.

2. U.S. Sourced Vegetable-tanned Leather Top (black only) adhered to scrap plywood core board screwed into metal frame. Bead blasted metal understructure frame is screwed to wood/core board. Origin of materials: Hides are domestic and leather is commonly considered a natural residue material. Note: Vegetable- tanned leathers are environmentally benign compared to the chromium tanned leathers in common use today. Additionally, Olive Designs strives to support the few remaining U.S. leather tanners and their domestic manufacturing operations wherever possible.

3. Bead Blasted Stainless Steel screw-on legs attached to metal understructure frame for ease of shipment and recycling. Height adjustable nylon glides provide leveling capabilities. Origin of materials: Sourced in Springfield, MA.

Announcing the New Leatherback Collection consisting of magazine and end tables for the home and commercial application. In abiding with the company's policy of supporting the endangered sea turtles of the earth, a percentage of profits from each order will go to support the Canadian Sea Turtle Network.

The magazine and end table combine the elegance of vegetable-tanned leather with the warmth of reclaimed hardwoods. The leather insert top is a soft, sophisticated alternative to the solid wood external frame. In both cases, the materials were carefully selected to meet the criteria for environmental balance established with all Olive Designs' furnishings. The leather is manufactured using a vegetable-tanning process, while the wood frame is 100% reclaimed lumber. Due to the variety of reclaimed lumber available, wood species will vary based on supply. To assure consistency, Olive Designs will attempt to meet all customer requests based on supply and demand. All tops are finished in an all water-based natural clear or ebony. The leather top insert is available in black only. The metal legs are shipped disassembled for ease of transit, and are offered in bead-blasted silver. A black powdercoat is available at additional cost.

Orders are being accepted as of June 1, 2007. All Presale orders require a 50% deposit with order.
