Olive Designs was formed in 1998 as
an alternative product manufacturer for contemporary lounge, lobby
and other open seating applications for the contract furniture
market. Olive Designs furniture reflects their commitment
to nature. All of their products are environmentally friendly.
Olive Designs adheres to a policy of sustainable balance that
requires a high ecological standard of manufacturing. Their manufacturing
utilizes environmentally friendly alternative materials and agents
and many sustainable and recycled materials. The following products
are just some of the alternative materials that they incorporate
into their furniture: industrial hemp fabrics, recycled textiles,
recycled glass and foam, recycled polystyrene, wheat-board, meadowood,
post industrial rubber tires for their table top surfaces and
salvage boiler tubes for some of their framing.
Olive Designs uses waterborne finishes and adhesives and formaldehyde-free
glues, furthering their commitment to using sustainable materials.
Olive Designs believes that the long-term solution to maintain
ecological equilibrium is maximizing the reuse of original material
and components. They are currently developing an internal program
that will allow complete product reclamation through product second-life
return programs.
Olive Designs was named after the plight of an endangered species called the olive ridley turtle. After 100 million years on earth, sea turtles are nearing the end of their existence. This company has committed to donate a percentage of profits to the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the species. You can visit the sea turtle hospital at www.seaturtlehospital.org.
